Meet Sheriff Anthony "Bubba" Russell, a dedicated public servant and native son of Hampton County. Born and raised in this close-knit community, Sheriff Russell embodies the values of respect, honesty, responsibility, and manners instilled in him by his parents, Willie Mae Russell and the late Deacon Hoyt Russell Sr. He has carried these guiding principles with him throughout his life and career, shaping his approach to law enforcement and leadership.
Driven by a deep-rooted commitment to the well-being of Hampton County and its residents, Sheriff Russell embarked on a career in law enforcement with the Hampton County Sheriff’s Department. Joining as a Deputy in March of 1997, he underwent rigorous training at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, earning the distinction of a Class I Officer. Over the years, Sheriff Russell's dedication and expertise led him to serve in various roles, including patrol, criminal investigations, narcotics, and ultimately as the Captain of Operations.
As a law enforcement professional, Sheriff Russell has demonstrated a steadfast resolve to uphold the law, protect the community, and foster positive relationships between law enforcement and the citizens they serve. His unwavering commitment to justice and safety culminated in his inauguration as the sheriff of Hampton County in January 2023, marking a new chapter in his lifelong dedication to public service.
